Heroes Season 4 Arriving August 3rd on DVD and Blu Ray

Heroes Season 4 “Redemption” has been given an official street date. While it’s not as early as some reports had speculated, at least we won’t have to wait until September. August 3rd is the official date that Universal has promised to release the 4th and final season of Heroes. We’re accustomed to getting commentary on almost every episode but it’s been scaled back just a bit this time around. Fortunately there’s a decent amount of other special features to keep us entertained. Tim Kring Outlines Potential Mini-Series

We’ve all been waiting anxiously to see what (if anything) would come of the Heroes cancellation. While we hoped we’d get a solid indication right after the up fronts, we were still left wondering if we had seen the last of Heroes. Well we’ve got some good news and some potential bad news. Let’s just start off with the good news. Tim Kring has outlined his idea for a wrap-up mini series that involves a one year time jump, Claire as the spokesperson, some of our specials exposed while others hide, and the big kicker; somehow bringing back the beloved Adrian Pasdar. I’d like to point out it won’t be in the form of Nathan Petrelli and I’m not really sure how that will work. Now the bad news. Tim Kring is confident that all the cast members are on board for this, but it can be very very tough to bring back a cast of this size while they’re trying to move forward with their careers. Additionally, NBC still needs to green light this project and that’s the biggest hurdle. NBC hasn’t had the best track record as of late and it could be difficult for them to fund the event (no pun intended). We’d like to remain optimistic and NBC did say they would like to appease the fans, but it’s pretty tough to bring something together in these kinds of situations. NBC Officially Cancels Heroes

It’s a sad day for Heroes fans… NBC has officially canceled the show. We’ll have a lot more to talk about as more information is given by NBC. There are also many people to thank for the last 4 seasons but right now it’s all still sinking in. I don’t want to leave anyone out, including all the fans so we’ll update you soon. Expect somewhat of a response, retrospect and a special thanks to everyone through the years. With that said, we wanted to at least get the main story out. We do have word from TheODI and Deadline Hollywood that NBC may still be planning a finale event to give us some closure. While it’s not even close to the fans getting a full season of our favorite show, it’s still something to [potentially] look forward to.

Heroes Now Likely to be Canceled?

After all the positive news we received regarding the return of Heroes for a 5th season run, more and more reports are coming in stating the opposite. Vulture.com broke the news yesterday morning with the headline “Vulture Learns NBC Is Likely to Cancel Heroes“. If that wasn’t enough the story spread like wildfire and was picked up by many news outlets. Our good friends over at TheODI.com quickly reached out to their NBC contacts. While NBC expressed their concern for this information being out there, they did say “It does not look good, BUT there is still a chance for Season 5.” Furthermore Grunberg had an interesting tweet this morning “The Fat Lady is doing her vocal warm-ups!!” I’m not sure if this applies to the Heroes situation but it’s worth mentioning.

While the ratings have been on a steady decline since early on in the 3rd season, the community has always been strong. International and domestic DVD sales have been tremendous for every volume of the series. Heroes was the number one downloaded show (albeit illegally) beating the likes of “Lost”, “Dexter” and “House”. Simply going off of Nielsen ratings, the immediate reaction after last season was that Heroes wouldn’t live to see another day. That started to change and we were hearing a lot of encouraging news in favor of Heroes coming back. More and more steam picked up and it appeared we would at least get one more run of the show. Unfortunately NBC is in a really bad spot right now and they are trying to rebuild their prime-time line up. Angela Bromstad (NBC Prime time president) has said from the beginning that NBC had a tremendous amount of pilots to review and that the fate of Heroes could be decided by their interest in those pilots. With J.J. Abram’s new series (”Undercovers”) being picked up and a slew of other new pilots being green lighted by NBC, it would appear that the chances for Heroes returning are looking more and more grim. I do want to point out that the Vulture.com article does imply that if Heroes doesn’t return for a 5th season there is the chance of a 2 or 4 hour movie.

With all this said, nothing has been officially decided or communicated by NBC. At least nothing that’s been made public, so we still have some hope. We know they have their upfronts this Sunday where they sell advertising space for their Fall shows. At that time NBC will release their Fall lineup and we’ll probably know for sure if Heroes is coming back or not. Unless their Spring lineup is not included and we’re asked to a wait a bit longer…. While I’m sure most things have already been finalized for NBC, it can’t hurt to let them know how you feel as a fan of the show. The quickest way to do this is to send tweets to @NBC and express your love for the show. If you do send NBC a message, keep it professional and courteous. The Heroes community has always been the best so let’s hope for a surprise this weekend and maybe Heroes will be back along with the 10th Wonder podcast! We’ll keep you posted!

Heroes Likely to Return for 13 Episode Final Run?

Well that’s exactly what the good people at “The Hollywood Reporter” are saying! This has actually been floating around the internet for a few days…THR is reporting that Angela Bromstad (NBC President of Primetime) is indicating that Heroes will likely return with a 13-episode “Final season.” NBC recently renewed Parenthood. At the same time, Heroes and Chuck were being discussed on The Hollywood Reporter website. In response to reports that NBC still has a couple of major titles on the bubble for renewal and that sources indicate both Heroes and Chuck will probably return (with Heroes likely receiving a 13-episode final season) Bromstad had this to say- “It is all yet to be debated, both of those shows make sense with the new shows we’ll be bringing on.”

This is making my thoughts on the return of Heroes more and more plausible but I will wait to get excited until we hear official word one way or another. Either way, it’s more positive news!!

NBC Strongly Considering a Final Season

THR is reporting that Heroes is still among shows that are “on the bubble” and “the Peacock strongly considering a final-season order.” That’s back to back stories of encouragement for Heroes fans. First we here from Ali Larter that she believes Heroes will be back for a 5th season and now we have word that NBC is strongly considering more episodes. Oh yeah, in case you missed it, Ali Larter recently spoke up about Heroes during the Resident Evil panel at WonderCon. Even though Larter feels that the show will be back, she encourages everyone to tweet and blog about it. You can check that out HERE.

My Personal Opinion

If NBC had plans to cancel Heroes, wouldn’t they have done it by now? I know some people are saying we’ll find out in May but Heroes has a big following and usually we would have heard something by now. Why keep the actors waiting and why not try to promote this as the final season in the U.K. if they had decided on ending with Season 4? This season might be over and done with in the U.S. but there are still more episodes airing in other places. Okay that last part may be a bit of a stretch but it would seem to me that NBC might be past the cancel/renew stage and they are trying to determine how to market the final season of Heroes. I’ll even go as far as to speculate that NBC might be considering more than just one more season. With the ending we were given for Volume 5 it might be tough to end the series with one final comeback. Would I be happy with only getting one more order of episodes? Sure I’ll take what I can get, but we have no idea what Tim Kring has actually pitched to NBC. I do feel that Heroes has a good chance of being back and the only thing that NBC is deciding on is how they’re going to market the show. I don’t want to give fans false hope so I want to clarify that this is completely personal opinion with zero inside knowledge on the situation. I may very well end up eating my words but I strongly believe there’s hope. What do you think? Sound off!

Greg Grunberg to Guest Star on New NBC Pilot

As many of you may know, NBC has a ton of pilots lined up for the upcoming TV season this Fall. We’ve just learned that Greg Grunberg (Matt Parkman) will guest star in the pilot episode of “Love Bites” a dramedy written by Cindy Chupak (”Everybody Loves Raymond, “Sex and the City”, “Men in Trees”). Before the rumors start swirling about Heroes, I’d like to point out that Greg is listed as a guest appearance for the pilot and the only two regulars continuing on will be Becki Newton (of “Ugly Betty”) and Jordana Spiro.

It seems like just yesterday we were watching the teasers for Volume 5 waiting for the new season to start and wondering to ourselves, “who are these carnival people?” How quickly time flies…

Fast forward to today, 21 weeks later as we anxiously await tonight’s season finale. It’s a conclusion to a volume that has been nothing short of a wild ride. This season has been filled with amazing moments, sad moments, new characters arriving, new characters leaving and the loss of one of the biggest characters on the show, Nathan Petrelli. With that said, the biggest addition to show has come in the form of this season’s central story arch, the Sullivan Brother’s Carnival. A carnival surrounded by mystery and wonder and led by Samuel Sullivan. Many questions remain: How will Peter and Sylar deal with Eli? Will Samuel succeed in his plan to demand respect and gain domination? Will our Heroes prevail as they rise up against him? Who will stand next to each other to oppose Samuel and his attempt for this ultimate power? Will Hiro finally save Charlie?

Well get ready for the Sullivan Brothers’ “Greatest Show Ever” as they bring the carnival to Central Park in New York. H.R.G. (Jack Coleman) recruits Matt (Greg Grunberg) to help him take down Samuel (Robert Knepper), as they use his long-lost love, Vanessa (guest star Kate Vernon), to lure him to them, but Samuel has his own plans for Vanessa in the works. Meanwhile, Hiro (Masi Oka) and Ando (James Kyson Lee) go to extreme lengths to save Dr. Suresh (Sendhil Ramamurthy). Grunberg Says “Heroes will be back”

According to Michael Ausiello, Greg Grunberg was recently quoted as saying “I don’t have any doubt that the show [Heroes] will be back.” They caught up with him last night at the People’s Choice awards and Greg goes on to say “We wrapped yesterday and the [final episode] is nowhere near a series finale, It is cliffhanger-y and exciting, but it is nowhere near an end to a series that people are so invested in. It does not tie everything up in a neat bow… I don’t have any doubt that the show will be back.”

I’d usually have a few choice words for Ausiello but in this case he’s simply relaying the message from Greg himself and it’s actually good news. Who would have thought? All kidding aside this is good news but it’s not definitive since ultimately it’s up to NBC/Universal (and now Comcast) execs to decide if we get another season of Heroes. On the plus side of things, this does coincide with recent talks from Tim Kring confirming that Volume 6 will be set up in the last part of the finale on February 8th. There’s more support to this as well from Greg in the article over at EW.com. What do you think? All signs are pointing to at least one more season of Heroes!

Heroes Returns with a 2 Hour Special

It’s been a little over a month without a new episode of Heroes but it’s felt like forever. Well Heroes is back tonight with a special 2 hour showing and we couldn’t be more excited. The next two chapters will air back to back tonight in a similar fashion to the way this volume started. Chapters 12 & 13, “Upon This Rock” and “Let it Bleed” come at us at the normal time of 8/7 central for a special 2 hour event. Are you as excited as we are to have Heroes back?

Don’t forget that next week Heroes will move back to its old time slot of 9PM/8PM C.S.T for the remainder of the season.

Masi Oka Visits GameOn Podcast

As we reported earlier, Heroes was up for an award over at TV.com for “The Best of 2009″ awards. Heroes was competing against Supernatural and True Blood for “Best Science fiction, Paranormal” TV show of 2009. We were also informed from one of our great listeners that Sylar and Hiro (Zachary Quinto and Masi Oka) were also up for their own awards.

Well the voting is over, the fans have spoken and not only has Heroes won for “Best Science fiction,Paranormal show” but Zachary Quinto has also taken home “Best Villain” for his role as Sylar!! Congratulations to Zach and the rest of the Heroes crew for taking home these awards!!

Comcast in Talks to Buy NBC Universal?

While this isn’t exactly “Heroes” news, it does have to do with the studio that runs the show. According to the Los Angeles Times, Comcast is looking to purchase NBC Universal from GE for approximately $30 – $35 billion dollars. The Times goes on to say that there hasn’t been any word from GE that they were interested in selling NBC Universal, however the industry has been speculating for a while that something like this could happen. It might be speculation at the moment but it’s definitely causing some buzz on the internet. I wonder what kind of impact the sale of NBC to any company (not just Comcast), would have on the current shows that air on NBC? For the full story, follow the link below to the L.A. Times. Casting Update: Andrew Connolly

It was announced last week that Andrew Connolly will be joining the cast of Heroes for a multi-episode arch. Connolly has made guest appearances on a bunch of different television shows with some of the more recent being “ER” and “Lost.” The role he’s playing could be a bit spoilery so we won’t get into details. Happy Heroes Day! A week has already passed and it’s time for a new episode of Heroes. Episode 3 “Ink” airs tonight and it looks very exciting to say the least. NBC has released a high quality promo entitled “A Normal Life.” It appears to be the same version shown after last week’s 2 hour premiere. There have been YouTube videos floating around the web, however this is the official promo presented in a higher quality. Who’s Samuel talking to? How much will Claire reveal to Gretchen? NBC has released a new Heroes promo for Season 4 entitled, “Back At Their Best.” There are a few new clips and we get to see the Haitian in action. Check out who he’s teamed up with in this new promo! Thanks to Commander Adama’s comment, Matt’s teamed up with his new police partner, not the Haitian but the he still appears in the promo. The song used in the video is called “Second Chance” by Shinedown. We’re now less then 2 weeks away until the premiere. Who’s excited?

NBC vs. Netflix, On Demand Content On the Way Out?

Update

Netflix has responded to my inquiries with NBC Universal. Apparently the NBC employees aren’t sure as to what is going on so they forwarded my requests to Netflix. The official response: “Netflix has a long standing relationship with NBC Universal and titles regularly come in and out of availability. There is a natural ebb and flow to what we have available at any given point in time.”

I’m not buying any of this and have asked for more information. The removal of NBC’s top shows isn’t “natural ebb and flow” in my opinion. We’ll keep you updated.

Apparently NBC doesn’t want their content to be viewed instantly by millions of Netflix subscribers. According to the Netflix Queue, certain NBC shows will no longer be available after October 1st of this year. From what we can tell these shows include Heroes, The Office, 30 Rock and Friday Night Lights. Although NBC is a backer and supporter for Hulu it’s still surprising that they don’t feel the need for their content to be available via Netflix. Is this NBC vs. iTunes all over again or is there no chance for the shows to return? I’m sure this all comes down to money and it’s disappointing to say the least. This puts a stop to an exciting Xbox Live feature we were looking forward to. On Demand Heroes parties, where up to 8 people can view an episode at a time together. It could very well be a mistake but I doubt it since there’s a report that CBS shows are being pulled as well. All in all we’ve scoured the web and there’s very little information available about this topic right now. We’re very curious to see what the mass media has to say and we’ll update this story as we get more information. One interesting thing to note is that Heroes Season 3 does not have an end date like the rest of the NBC shows. Maybe they’ll keep the most current season and this is an attempt to bump up DVD sales? Let’s hope Netflix and/or NBC releases an official statement soon.

Milo Ventimiglia to Appear on Jimmy Kimmel Live

Milo Ventimiglia (Peter Petrelli) will be a guest on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Thursday September 3rd. Jimmy Kimmel airs on ABC at 12:00am EST. Other guests include Kathy Lee Gifford and R. Kelly. Milo seems to be a busy man with Heroes, feature films and various other projects involving his production company DiVide Pictures. The new movie “Gamer” is being released tomorrow so I would expect him to talk about that along with his latest project, Ultradome. Of course, we’ll hopefully get some Heroes talk as well with the new season approaching. Milo always gives a great interview so be sure to tune in to ABC tonight!

Additionally, the Season 4 air date has yet to be officially confirmed on the BBC but we’ll keep you posted as we find out more information. However, with bad news we always look for some good news. It looks like the UK is getting a complete set of Seasons 1-3 with special cover art (as seen above, far right). What do you think?

What IGN wants from Heroes in Season 4

With the Season 4 premiere barely a month away, pop-culture site IGN, (consistently one of Heroes’ toughest critics) posted a very lengthy piece detailing all of the things it would like to see happen in the upcoming season.

We know all too well that the overall response from loyal fans to casual viewers over the past few years has been mixed. So this time we’re really interested in reading articles like this one. What do fans of Heroes want to see this time? What don’t they want to see? And while we’re at it, what do giant pop-culture blogs want to see out of Heroes this year?

As I read through this post I found myself nodding in agreement a few times. We’ve been quick-to-judge posts by IGN in the past, at times probably confusing some constructive criticism with whining and complaining. And while, of course, I don’t agree with every suggestion in the article, I believe every show, especially those with four seasons or more can handle a bit of tough love from fans every now and then.

So while we’re sitting here waiting for Season 4 to begin, let’s open up a discussion about everyone’s expectations for Heroes this year. What would you like to see come Sept. 21st? Do you agree/disagree with IGN? What are your expectations for Heroes in its 4th season? (Leave a Comment)

A new “Redemption” photo from NBC

Even though this is a photo from a scene that you’ve probably already seen in the various trailers that are floating around the web right now, this picture was sent to us today by NBC and it’s a shot of Claire bleeding out on the ground after what looks like a big fall. In the context of the episode we’re pretty sure this from the scene where Gretchen (Claire’s new roommate) will discover that Claire has the ability to regenerate after she falls out of the window of their dorm room.

Still, I find the chalk lines being there a little odd, don’t you? That would mean that she’s been lying there long enough for a medical examiner to draw them. What’s the delay? Is she afraid that she’ll be found out, or is there something stuck in her skull?

Update:
Some detective work in the comments might explain the chalk lines.

I think someone killed themselves prior and she was simulating it to see if it was suicide or a homicide.

Heroes racks up two Emmy nominations

Emmy nominations have been announced and we’re pleased to report that Heroes has been honored with two nominations. One for Outstanding Art Direction in a Single-Camera Series for the Season 3 episode “Cold Snap“, the second nomination is for Outstanding Special Visual Effects For A Series for the episodes “The Second Coming/The Butterfly Effect“. Congratulations to everyone at Heroes, and don’t miss the 61st annual Emmy Awards Sunday, Sept. 20th on CBS!

Casting Update: Tessa Thompson

Veronica Mars Alum Tessa Thompson will be joining the cast of Heroes. Along with four movies due out in 2009, Tessa is finding time to appear in volume 5, “Redemption.” At this point we’re not exactly sure how many episodes she’ll be appearing in. What we do know is that Tessa will play the part of Becky, “an upperclassman who is protecting a secret of her own.” It looks like Claire and Becky are going to be at odds and it will be interesting to find out exactly what secret Becky is hiding. Could it be an ability of her own? We’ll find out in the fall when Heroes starts back up on September 21st.

Comic Con: Highlights from the Heroes Panel

The Heroes panel at Comic Con 2009 was a blast! First, we apologize for not being able to provide live updates this year. The Indigo ballroom at the Hilton was a giant telecommunications dead zone. So without further delay let’s get to what you all really want to hear!

At the panel this year was Tim Kring, Jack Coleman, Masi Oka, Hayden Panettiere, Adrian Pasdar, Zachary Quinto, Milo Ventimiglia, Robert Kneppler, Dawn Oliveri, Ray Park, & Madeline Zima.

Tim Kring started out the panel by thanking the fans at Comic Con for helping Heroes grow into the show that it has become since introducing the show at Comic Con 2006. The cast even stood up and applauded the fans (pictured above). Kring then gave the audience the setup for Volume 5. Essentially, now that the government is no longer a threat to the heroes, they’re all trying to get some normalcy back into their lives.

“Everyone’s going back to their ordinary lives. But what IS an ordinary life? Do you hide, assimilate or try to fit in? That’s the question this year…”

Kring also says that we’ll be introduced to a new set of characters, a group of people who’ve found a unique way to hide their abilities in plain sight using a traveling carnival as their cover.

They then rolled an exclusive trailer that was put together specifically for Comic Con, which you can watch here.

The first question asked to the entire cast was “Where are your characters at the beginning of Volume 5?”

Jack Coleman (Noah Bennett) – Noah is at a place where he thinks he’s setting up this new company, but it turns out his world is falling apart around him (his marriage). Noah has a newfound empathy for people with abilities and there’s less interest in bagging & tagging. He’s trying to find solid ground.

Masi Oka (Hiro Nakamura) – Hiro starts off where he left off (the nosebleed situation). He’s going through an illness. He gets some bad news and then realizes what his true destiny in life is. He goes back to Yamagato Industries and starts a new business with his friend Ando. Hiro thinks he only has a few days or weeks left to live, so he’s trying to make the most of it.

Hayden Panettiere (Claire Bennett) – Claire goes to college and becomes friends with an “interesting” girl (her roomate, played by Madeline Zima). Who eventually finds out about her abilities.

Adrian Pasdar (Nathan Petrelli) – Sylar and Nathan get into a Jeckyll & Hyde situation and by mid-season it gets very interesting.

Zachary Quinto (Sylar) - Sylar is going to exist in two places at the beginning of this season. He starts to emerge. Sylar will also somehow get inside of Matt Parkman’s head.

Milo Ventimiglia (Peter Petrelli) – Peter is back to being a paramedic. He’s a kid with a golden heart, but throughout the show he’s been shot at, stabbed, died, and stabbed again; his whole family has tried to screw him over. He’s seen it all now, he’s more humorous, and he smiles more easily, but he’s still a guy who will swing back harder if somebody swings at him.

At this point the four new cast members had a chance to tell us where their characters would begin on the show:

Robert Knepper (Samuel) – Samuel’s the reluctant ringleader of the Carnival. His brother just passed away. He’s going to start a new life and he’s bringing the people from the Carnival with him.

Dawn Oliveri (Lydia) – Lydia is a part of the Carnival and her ability is centered around tatoo’s that magically appear on her body. Dawn reassured the audience that Lydia is going to stir up some trouble.

Ray Park (Edgar) – Edgar is also part of the Carnival. Everyone in the Carnival has abilities. Edgar likes to play with knives and has Super Speed. Edgar is sent out into the world by Samuel. The members of the Carnival want to find redemption, they want to have peace.

Madeline Zima (Gretchen) – Gretchen is a freshman at college with Claire. She becomes Claire’s first true friend since Season 1.

One of the most interesting discussions on the panel was on the topic Hiro’s ’specific’ redemption. Masi Oka said that Hiro’s power will begin to go out of control. But his specific redemption is going back in time and fixing his mistakes. Going on the theme that he thinks he’s about to die, this is sort of his “bucket list.” he wants to make amends.

The panel wrapped up with a question about “When will Peter be a badass?” and Milo said that he had a clip to show everyone. The lights went down and we were treated to a scene of Peter & Noah encountering Edgar (the knife-throwing super speeder) and during the encounter Peter steals his ability and goes toe-to-toe, fighting with Edgar while Noah can do nothing but watch as two blurry figures zip around the room.

Heroes’ Comic Con Presence: An Off-site Panel?

We’re hearing reports from all over that Heroes’ planned “presence” at Comic Con does include a 1-hour panel, but here’s the interesting part… it will be held off-site at the nearby Hilton San Diego Bayfront hotel. Plans include the screening of a special Season 4 trailer created specifically for SDCC, as well as a Q&A session with Tim Kring, Jack Coleman, Masi Oka, Adrian Pasdar, Zachary Quinto and newcomers to the cast Robert Knepper, Dawn Olivieri, Ray Park and Madeline Zima.

Last year’s SDCC Heroes panel completely packed the San Diego convention center’s largest venue Hall H, which seats more than 6,500.

Bryan Fuller Steps Down

Bryan Fuller has decided that going forward he will no longer be writing for Heroes. He will, however, stay on as a producer and feels he’s already laid down some great story arcs for Season 4.

With that said, it has been a strange ride for Fuller. First he’s on the crew, then he leaves, later decides to come back (with a ton of fan support I might add) and now he’s stepping down once again. It doesn’t appear to have anything to do with the show or any of the crew but in his words “the plate — she was over-flowing.” This due to the fact that he’s writing “multiple pilots for NBC.”

While this isn’t the best news we’ve heard, it’s not the worst. He will still be a part of the creative team from a producing stand point and there are already so many great writers and directors that make up this crew, I’m sure it will be a great season. We do wish him the best of luck and look forward to seeing his future pilots come to fruition.

Heroes will be at Comic Con 2009!

Update 2… Latest news is that Heroes will in fact at least have a small panel at this year’s Comic-Con. According to E! Online Tim Kring and “some of the cast” will be hosting a panel on Saturday, however additional details remain unannounced. We should be getting more information on this event very soon but let’s hope they do the right thing and bring us a Heroes panel as they have in years past. Update: The website that broke the news about Heroes’ involvement with Comic-Con has updated their article to say that heroes will have a “presence” at Comic-Con but unfortunately not a “panel” More info here…

For about a week now, rumors have been circulating that a big show will not be returning to Comic-Con this year. As more and more TV shows confirmed their panel times, Heroes was not showing up on any of those lists. This left many of us thinking that there may not be a Heroes panel after all.

Well put those worries to rest because the Chicago Tribune has just confirmed (with Tim Kring himself) that Heroes WILL be presenting a panel and will also have some new footage for us in San Diego. Kring says: “I plan on being there, along with some cast and writer/producers, etc,” “And we’re fully expecting to have a great sneak peek at Season 4 to show. The fans that come to Comic-Con are the best, most loyal that we have. We wouldn’t miss it.” NOTE: Comic-Con 2009 is currently sold out. Read the full story after the jump: ChicagoTribune.com

Casting Update: Madeline Zima

Word on the street is that Claire will be getting a roommate in the 4th season of Heroes. Well that seems to be coming true as Madeline Zima has just been cast for a recurring role in the upcoming season. According to the Hollywood reporter, Zima will play the role of Gretchen, an “edgy outsider and college roommate to Claire.”

Madeline Zima is most recently recognizable for her role as Mia Lewis on the Showtime series “Californication.” She’s also set to be in a few feature films later this year but some of you might remember her as little Grace Sheffield from Fran Drescher’s series “The Nanny” (1993-1999). Well now she’s all grown up and heading over to Heroes. From what we’ve learned the premiere episode is tentatively titled “Orientation” and that just might involve this new character. I’m sure we’ll know more when filming begins so stay tuned.

Fallen Heroes, Another Shakeup at NBC

We weren’t expecting too much Heroes centric news after the finale, however we were stunned to learn that Greg Beeman (Executive Producer/Director) was no longer going to be a part of the Heroes staff. Beeman posted on his blog that he would not be returning for season 4. He starts off by saying “Dearest readers, this is a sad moment for me, as it will be, not only my final blog for Season 3, but also my final blog for HEROES.” Beeman goes onto give an amazing farewell to every cast and crew member he worked with and that alone is a testament to his character and the amazing person that he is. Beeman came over to work on Heroes after being an integral part of Smallville and what a job he did. Not only was he a major part of the production staff and writing team, he was also responsible for directing some of the finest episodes of Heroes to date. To say the least, Greg Beeman will be missed greatly.

NBC didn’t give us too much time to digest this before delivering more bad news. We recently learned that Allan Arkush, another amazing Executive Producer and Director, was also “let go” in an attempt to trim the budget. This is another huge shock considering Allan came over to Heroes after executive producing and directing for Tim Kring’s previous creation “Crossing Jordan.” Like Beeman, Arkush was responsible for many stellar episodes of Heroes and he will be missed dearly.

With that said, we’ve lost two key figures that were responsible for making Heroes such a success. Arkush and Beeman were both a part of Heroes from the beginning along side Tim Kring and they brought a magic that will be hard to duplicate. In fact, right after the first episode “Genesis” was directed by Tim Kring, episode 2 “Don’t Look Back” was directed by Allan Arkush and episode 3 “One Giant Leap” was directed by Greg Beeman. They were both executive producers at that time as well. Without their creative input it will be interesting to see what direction the series is headed but we have faith it will not stray far from the precedence they’ve established.

On a positive note, they have both left the door open to possibly come back and direct some episodes during season 4. Nothing is official at this time but it would be nice to at least have them back to direct a few episodes. From what we know, this was a choice by NBC/Universal to trim down the budget going into next season and nothing more than a financial decision. Greg Beeman and Allan Arkush deserve a ton of credit and we wish them the best!

“The Recruit” Nominated for Webby Awards

Nominations have been posted for the 2009 Webby Awards and the online Heroes series The Recruit has made the cut. The webisode has landed two nominations this year in different categories; Drama Individual Episode & Drama: Series. What’s interesting are the results are shown in real-time all the way up to the final day. Currently, Heroes is in the lead for Individual Episode and running 2nd right behind “Speedie Date” for Drama: Series. Please note, the Webby Awards require a short sign-up process but it takes about 20 seconds and it keeps it accurate. Heroes All Access Fan Club

Tim Kring recently talked about a new fan club dubbed Heroes All Access. Well the short wait is over and it appears the fan club has launched with an official sign-up page at NBC.com. As we originally speculated, Heroes All Access will be a fee based fan club however there’s a little more to it. The memberships are priced out at two different tiers. There is a $29.95 membership and a $49.95 VIP membership. Both memberships come with a welcome letter from Tim Kring and many goodies from the show. The Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films has released the list of nominations for this year’s Saturn Awards. This will mark the 35th Annual Saturn Awards ceremony and they’ve sure embraced Heroes this year with 7 nominations in various categories. Tim Kring Talks about Heroes at TVOT Convention

Tim Kring spoke earlier on Wednesday at the TV of Tomorrow convention in San Francisco. There’s a whole article about it with a bunch of quotes from Kring over at SFgate.com. One of the more interesting tidbits was Tim Kring telling the story of how his son pointed out to him that Heroes is in the Guinness Book of World Records. Heroes has the distinct title of the most downloaded show ever.

Heroes Now Available on the PlayStation Network

PlayStation 3 owners rejoice! What seems to be long overdue, Sony has announced that NBC Universal will now be offering their content via the PlayStation network. PS3 owners can download episodes of The Office, 30 Rock and Heroes as well as a few popular Universal movies. I decided to take a look myself and sure enough all the content is already available for download. Heroes has all 3 seasons to choose from in Standard Definition or High Definition and the prices are on par with the rest of the TV content. Episodes in Standard Definition will cost you $1.99 while High Definition episodes get you for $2.99.

NBC wants more Heroes!

Even though we still do not have an official press release regarding NBC’s plans for Heroes, we are hearing some good things from the executives themselves. NBC Entertainment president Angela Bromstad mentioned during a Q&A session this morning that NBC plans to bring back Heroes this fall for 18-20 episodes. Bromstad also added that Heroes was never ‘on the bubble’ for renewal, meaning NBC was not actively considering ending the show.

Casting Update: Katherine Boecher

According to OKMagazine.com, Katherine Boecher will be appearing on Heroes during the April 6th episode, ‘Turn and Face the Stranger’. Katherine has had short appearances on a number of shows including Supernatural, Mad men and CSI: NY. How long we expect to see her on the show remains to be seen but from what we’re reading, she’ll be playing the part of “Alena” a Russian call girl. Has Heroes been renewed?

In network television, shows that are doing well typically get renewed very early to much fanfare. We have all been holding our breath as Heroes’ ratings have declined, and NBC’s silence over the past few months has been deafening. Early this morning Greg Grunberg, one of our favorite Heroes twitterers, tweeted this message:

“Don’t get me wrong, Heroes IS coming back next year…”

Whether Greg has any advance knowledge about Heroes’ renewal, we can’t say. But we won’t stop holding our breath until NBC makes it official.

Zatta and other Heroes writers let go by NBC

Christopher Zatta and others have been let go by NBC due to downsizing and budget cuts according to a letter sent to the 9th Wonders fansite by Zatta himself:

I am sad to say that I am no longer with Heroes. NBC decided to cut back on the budget for the show and part of that plan involved downsizing on the lower level writers.

At the moment, we are trying to follow up and find out who else may have been let go. Christopher Zatta wrote Parasite, Dying of the Light (with Chuck Kim) and was part of the writing team behind last week’s episode Cold Wars.

New webisode series in the pipeline

New webisodes planned for late April are in post-production right now. We’re hearing that they will prominently feature the “Puppet Master” character, Eric Doyle, played by actor David H. Lawrence XVII. The official name of the series is rumored to be: “Nowhere Man.”

We thought for sure that NBC would go with the obvious choice “Puppet Man,” but no such luck. We’ll post more information about the new series as it comes in.

No Heroes on Monday, March 16th

Heroes is taking a week off on March 16th. We mentioned this on the podcast this week and speculated that it was happening perhaps to give Heroes a little more leverage during May sweeps and/or more time to put the finishing touches on the last few episodes of the season. It works out pretty well for us (and for many of you, I imagine) as this is our Spring Break week and we were worrying over how we would manage to have a podcast out that week! Enjoy the week off, because after that it’s a non-stop ride to the finale of Season 3.

“A Clear and Present Danger” Leaked by Amazon?

Whoops! The ODI is reporting that an accidental leak within the Amazon Unbox service caused the first episode of Volume 4 “A Clear and Present Danger,” to be available for download for a short period of time. Amazon quickly rectified the mistake, but that didn’t stop some folks from posting some revealing screenshots from the episode. It is also likely that the episode might show up on torrents in short order, which may or may not have an impact on the ratings for Monday night.

Heroes Score Album Coming Soon?

When the Heroes Original Soundtrack was released in March of 2008, some fans were a little disappointed that there wasn’t enough Score Music from the series itself. In fact, only four of the eighteen tracks were originals by Wendy and Lisa and the rest were ‘inspired’ by the show. Granted, the four tracks that were included were amazing, some of us wanted more…

With some help from the latest Official Heroes Magazine and confirmation on twitter from Wendy and Lisa themselves, it looks like they’ll be releasing a Heroes Score Album soon. From what we know, the original story actually hit EW late last year but recent twitter posts indicate we will have it in a month (see twitter conversation after the jump). So far what we do know is that the disc will revolve around short music cues, mostly from season one, and include longer tracks for about 10 main characters. From the article: “The first will be Peter, the second one is Claire, and so on.” Click on the article image for the full read! Keep in mind, things can change at any time but we’ll keep you posted as more news comes in.

The twitter conversation was short but sweet. If this holds up we’ll be treated to a new Heroes CD possibly in the next month!

Heroes picks up a SAG Award for stunt work

The Screen Actor’s Guild awards show airs tonight and it has just been announced that Heroes is taking home a trophy for Outstanding Performance by a Stunt Ensemble in a Television Series. It’s great to see the unsung heroes of TV drama get some recognition, and we’ve known for a while now that Heroes’ stunt performers are at the top of their game. Congratulations to all of the stunt guys and gals at Heroes!

We have just a little over a week before Heroes returns and Fugitives begins. Up until now, NBC has pretty much stuck to the same promotional video that aired after the Villains finale. During The Office on Thursday night NBC released an extended version of the previous trailer with some new clips, familiar music and a brand new feel to Volume 4! To say it’s exciting is an understatement, because it looks phenomenal. Take a look and see if you’re as excited as we are!

Swoosie Kurtz to Guest Star on Heroes

Pushing Daisies fans may be excited to know that Swoosie Kurtz will join the cast for at least one episode when Heroes returns this February. Swoosie played the role of Lily Charles on Pushing Daisies, Fuller’s recently canceled ABC series. It may come as no surprise that Bryan Fuller has written the episode that Swoosie will appear in. We expect to see her in an epsiode in April where she will portray Millie, and old friend of Angela Petrelli’s. It looks like they’ll be exploring Angela’s past which should be very interesting to see.

CBR Interviews Mark Verheiden

Comic Book Resources recently sat down with Mark Verheiden to talk about a few of his recent projects including Heroes. Mark was brought on as a consulting producer and writer for the “Fugitives” story arc in Volume Four. It’s a pretty lengthy interview but a lot of good insight regarding his role on the Heroes staff and his thoughts about Villains and what’s to come. Judging by Mark’s involvement with other great shows, namely Smallville and Battlestar Galactica, he’s a welcomed addition to the Heroes staff.

Heroes stars presenting at the Golden Globes

Although Heroes was not nominated in any categories for the 66th annual Golden Globe Awards this year, we’ve received word that Zachary Quinto (Sylar) and Hayden Panettiere (Claire) have agreed to be presenters during the ceremony. Quinto will be presenting an award alongside fellow Star Trek star Chris Pine. The 66th Annual Golden Globe Awards are this Sunday, January 11th on NBC.

As some of you might know, there were some scenes with Knox that were to be explored earlier this season that never made it on the show. Heroes In A Hurry

Looking to fill that Heroes void during the winter hiatus? Well NBC might have just the thing you’re looking for. Actually, you might have just the thing that NBC is looking for! NBC.com has just launched “Heroes in a Hurry,” a video creation and editing contest about your favorite character during Volume 3. They’re accepting short videos filmed by fans, asking you to briefly tell parts of the Heroes story in your own words. They are even including a “Toolbox” of video clips for each character to incorporate into your video. Videos are to be 30 – 60 seconds long and you can create as many as you want. The Volume 3 finale, and Jeph Loeb’s final episode of Heroes once known as “War” then, “Duality” then, “Duel” is now being listed as “Dual” on NBC.com’s official write-up of the episode. Aron & Joe mentioned in our interview late last week that they had seen the episode presented both ways (Duel and Dual) so the name change isn’t too surprising. But hey, we’ll watch the episode no matter what it’s called. Don’t miss “Dual” on Monday at 9pm

Note: The Official Heroes page on NBC.com still lists the episode as “Duel”. Sounds like there’s some confusion at NBC.

Casting Update: John Glover joining Heroes

Michael Ausiello is reporting that Tony award winner John Glover will be joining the cast as Sylar’s father. This won’t be the first time that Glover has played the father of a TV uber villain. Fans of the hit series Smallville will remember Glover as Lionel Luthor, Lex Luthor’s dad! According to a Heroes insider, “When Sylar meets his father, he’s going to see a path ahead of him that he doesn’t want to take. He has a lot more in common with his father than he realized.”

We expect to see Mr. Gray sometime towards the end of Volume 4 and we’re very excited to see how it all plays out.

Bryan Fuller Officially Back with Heroes

This may be sad news for “Pushing Daisies” fans, but since Pushing Daisies has been canceled Bryan Fuller is expected to be back on the “Heroes” writing staff starting with Episode 20 of Season 3. The Hollywood Reporter says that Fuller has inked a 2 year deal with Universal Media Studios worth over seven figures. Fuller will be back until the end of Season 3 when he may either continue working with Heroes or join another project for Universal. We’ll have to wait and see how that plays out.

Bryan Fuller worked on Heroes as a writer and co-executive producer until the end of Season 1 when he left to create “Pushing Daisies” for ABC. He also wrote both “Collision” and “Company Man”.

Casting Update: Moira Kelly to Join the Cast of Heroes

Sources are reporting that former “One Tree Hill” star Moira Kelly is set to join the cast of Heroes. Moira Kelly, who’s also known for her part on “The West Wing,” will be be playing the part of Abby Collins, a Homeland Security agent. We’ll get our first glimpse of Moira when the 4th Volume of Heroes entitled “Fugitives” begins next year. The source of the article contains spoilers for the current volume so BEWARE.

Bryan Fuller May Return to Heroes

Not much time has passed since the big shakeup of the Heroes staff and it seems inevitable that Tim Kring will have to replace Jeph Loeb and Jesse Alexander in some capacity. Many sources are reporting that Bryan Fuller just might be the guy for the job.

For those of you unfamiliar with the name, Bryan Fuller was a co-executive producer for 16 episodes and a consulting producer for 6 more during the first season of Heroes. Fuller departed after season 1 to become the executive producer of the ABC series Pushing Daisies.

Bryan’s known for writing two great episodes of Heroes, “Collision” the 4th episode of season 1 and fan favorite “Company Man,” the 17th episode of season 1. This would be a welcome come back for Fuller considering he’s familiar with the magic behind Heroes and is widely respected by the Heroes cast.

Tim Kring Speaks Out

In the wake of the recent decision by NBC executives to shake things up on the Heroes staff, Tim Kring has given a little bit of information about what happened and what he’s going to do with Heroes going forward. The article from Variety.com explains that Kring was pressured by NBC execs to make changes in the staff and concentrate on refocusing Heroes “to the comicbookish good vs. evil themes while emphasizing character development more than plot twists.” Tim Kring has assured Universal and NBC that he plans on “simplifying an overly complex storytelling structure.” You can find the article here courtesy of Variety.com

“Create Your Hero” Webisodes November 10th

Fans have voted and Santiago has been chosen as the winner of NBC/Sprint’s “Create Your Hero” that’s been going on for quite a while now. We’ve been waiting to find out how they would incorporate this new Hero and the promo looks quite promising. Santiago has the power of Accelerated Probability and he can run incredibly fast. The promo video shows Santiago using his abilities and there’s also a really cool scene with a female character who’s ability is to turn into water. Casting: Justin Baldoni signs on with Heroes

Michael Ausiello is reporting that Heroes is bringing on Justin Baldoni from the WB Classic series “Everwood.” Baldoni is set to appear in at least 2 episodes of Chapter 4 entitled Fugitives, and will be portraying a “Southern California surfer dude who works at a comic book store.” Also, recent set pics indicate his story line will involve a current major character and you can find out who this is by following the set pictures link below . Update: Jeph Loeb & Jesse Alexander Leaving Heroes

Breaking: We’ve heard numerous reports today that co-executive producers Jesse Alexander and Jeph Loeb will be leaving Heroes. Entertainment Weekly and Vareity both report that NBC has made a move to shake up the Heroes staff. Reasons for the move may include the declining ratings, and/or staff layoffs and downsizing by NBC.

Both Jeph and Jesse were heavily involved in the day-to-day operations at Heroes and their departure is sad news for Heroes fans indeed. We wish Jeph and Jesse the best of luck with their future plans. We will always be appreciative for their phenomenal work on our favorite show.

We will stay on top of this story if any new details arise.

Update: Loeb and Alexander have released official statements regarding this matter. Check out what they had to say after the jump.

Ntare talks about his introduction into acting as well as his experience on Heroes.

According to ODI, Dan Byrd will be joining the cast of Heroes. He’s known for his TV roles on “Aliens in America” and “Clubhouse” and can also be found in the movie “The Hills Have Eyes.” He’s been cast for the recurring role of “David, a dark and twisted kid who tells lies easily and has a cruel streak.” Byrd has been signed on for a minimum of 3 episodes in Volume 4: Fugitives

We know we have dropped the proverbial ball this week, so we’re working double time to get the episode out on the feeds before the weekend’s over.

Casting News: Zeljko Ivanek

Emmy Award winning actor Zeljko Ivanek will be joining the cast of Heroes this season for a ten-episode story arc. He will be playing a character named The Hunter and will make his first appearance in Episode 14, which is the first episode of Volume 4: Fugitives.

Last month Ivanek won the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for his role on Damages. He had previously appeared on shows like 24 and Homicide: Life on the Street.

Clarification on Bob’s Departure

Last week we reported that Bob (Stephen Tobolowsky) was written off of the show due to a severe neck injury. While it’s true that he was involved in a serious horse riding accident, apparently this was not the reason for him leaving the show. ODI.blogspot.com is siting an inside source as confirmation that Bob’s death scene was already planned. In fact, it was supposed to happen in Volume 3 during the second half of Season 2. ODI goes on to say that some of the scenes were already filmed before the writer’s strike cut the season short. Of course we still wish Steven a speedy recovery but we want to make sure all our facts are straight.

Keeping up with Heroes ARG

It seems the Pinehearst Company (which has yet to be fully explained on the show) has updated their website. You can apply for a career, watch a company commercial, and even find hidden Easter eggs that contain clues to the future. Recently the site has been updated with a new video that is entitled “Company Commercial”. Also noticed is the same Double Helix pin that Claire was wearing in “The Second Coming”. With about 13 seconds left in the commercial, the pin is located in the bottom left corner of the screen.

There is also a Hidden Helix located on the “Careers” page in the bottom right-hand corner. Move your mouse cursor over the gray area and click on the Helix that appears. You will be prompted for an access code. Enter “19225688423″ and see what you find! Thanks to the Heroes ARG feed for providing the code!

NBC.com Takes Home an Emmy for Heroes

NBC.COM recently snagged an Emmy Award at the Creative Arts ceremony in Los Angeles. NBC and Heroes came away with the Emmy for providing so much in-depth content on the Official Heroes Website and especially on the Heroes Evolutions interactive site.

Official Press Release:

NBC.com took home its first Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Achievement in Interactive Media for the “Heroes” and “Heroes” Evolutions sites. The site had four total nominations. It was announced at the Creative Arts ceremony in Los Angeles on Saturday, September 13th.

Heroes Topping the Download Charts

Well it didn’t take long for Heroes to climb to the top of the digital download charts. Heroes is currently listed as the Top Selling TV Series on Amazon.com. It doesn’t stop there however, Heroes Season 3 is also #1 on the iTunes Top TV Seasons Chart. It looks like NBC made the right decision to bring their content back to iTunes!

Ausiello Explains Bob’s Quick Departure

Some of you may have been shocked to see Bob leave the show so quickly in Season 3. This might not have been the original plan for Bob. According to EW.com’s Michael Ausiello, the actor who plays Bob (Stephen Tobolowsky) was involved in a horse riding accident during the hiatus. Bob could only shoot 2 scenes while sitting in the chair without his neck-brace. We wish Stephen a speedy recovery and we’ll miss Bob on the show. On the flip side, you never know if a character is truly dead on Heroes.

Together again, at last!

We knew it was a matter of time, but that doesn’t stop us from being super excited that Heroes is finally returning to the iTunes store. Apple announced today at its annual September media event that NBC is indeed returning to the iTunes store with its fall lineup of shows, but here’s where it gets even more exciting: Heroes and many other shows will be offered in both Standard Definition and High Definition!

Way to go Apple and NBC!

Hayden Panettiere Visits with David Letterman

According to Hayden’s MySpace blog, Hayden is set to appear on the the Late Show with David Letterman Friday, September 5th. The Late Show airs at 11:30 EST. As some of you may remember, Hayden appeared on Letterman last year to promote the Heroes Season 1 DVD. She’s back again to promote Season 2 on DVD and the start of Heroes Season 3, September 22nd on NBC. It’s short notice so don’t forget to set those DVR’s! The 2008 San Diego Comic-Con is now officially over, and we’re all headed our separate ways– but before the glow of the amazing time we had last weekend starts to dim too much, we want to stop for a minute and say, “Thank You” to all of the wonderful people that we met, all of our new friends, and especially those of you who attended our very first panel at Comic-Con! None of it would have happened without your loyal support of our little show here. Thank you!

We’re getting lots of e-mail (understandably) asking about a new 10th episode. Because of travel plans (Graham’s driving home from Los Angeles starting tomorrow!), our plan is to have a podcast out early next week where we’ll cover everything we saw at Comic-Con, and more! We’re here! We made it to San Diego around 5pm, hopped in the gigantic line for registrations and got our badges. The exhibit hall floor is pretty impressive, especially to us since this is our first Comic-Con. After a while we found our way to the Heroes booth…

We’re hearing from lots of folks that this year’s Heroes booth is substantially smaller than last year’s. A line feeds through it and when you walk in there’s a display of authentic props from the show as well as a display case of the available action figures and merchandise for sale at the booth. Last year we spotted several Heroes producers at the booth chatting with fans, but with the size of this year’s booth we’re not sure if that will be a repeat experience.

We’re pumped that we’re finally here and that Comic-Con has begun! Look for us on the show floor and pay close attention to our Twitter to track us down! We’d love to meet you if you’re here!

Artist Michael Turner Dies

The LA Times reports today that contemporary comic-book artist, Michael Turner, died last weekend after an 8-year battle with cancer.

Turner was a star in the comic-book industry and a particularly important asset during the early stages of Heroes. Turner was involved in creating the very first Heroes graphic novel, Monsters.

Our thoughts are with Michael Turner’s family and friends during this difficult time.

We finally have the official date, time, and location of our panel at the San Diego Comic-Con! If you’re going to be there, make sure to circle this in your schedule:

We lost sleep worrying about whether or not our panel would conflict with the official Heroes panel, and if the tentative schedule going around the web holds true, our panel DOES NOT conflict with the Heroes panel, which is great news!

Heroes at Comic-Con: Panel details emerge

Throughout the day several websites posted bits and pieces of the headlining panel lineup for the San Diego Comic-Con. If the folks at Seat24f have it right, we might finally know the date and time of the official Heroes panel.

Seat24f reports the Heroes panel will be Saturday July 26th, from 10:45 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.

We are still waiting for some sort of official confirmation of this date/time. When we hear it we will let you know!

The ‘Greatest American Hero’ to guest on Heroes!

Newsarama and HeroSite are reporting that William Katt, star of the TV classic, ‘Greatest American Hero,’ has recently finished shooting a guest spot for Heroes. Katt had a lot of nice things to say about the cast and crew in the Newsarama article. As for the details on his character? Katt says his character is “…a really wonderful, seedy, smarmy-mouthed reporter.” More ’spoilery’ details after the jump!

HeroSite.net reports that Katt’s reporter character will appear in episode two (#302) of Season Three.

Katt tells Newsarama that his character deals almost exclusively with Ali Larter’s character, Niki:

Francis Capra joining Heroes

Looks like another Veronica Mars alum will be joining Kristen Bell on the Heroes cast list. TV Guide reports that Francis Capra is the next actor to join the show this season and, while details are light at the moment, we do know the name of his character will be Jesse and that he’ll likely be a villain who’ll eventually cross paths with Peter Petrelli.

Season 3 premiere episode at Comic Con?

Long-time fans of Heroes remember how all of this got started. Heroes came into Comic Con two years ago as a newcomer, quietly building hype for a new nbc original fall series, and during their panel they debuted the original pilot to an unsuspecting audience — the rest is history.

This year at Comic Con Kring and company may be ready to unleash what fans of Heroes have been waiting for since December third: The Season 3 premiere episode! Sources are saying that Kring and company want to have an advance look at the premiere episode ready to show fans at Comic Con in July in order to ramp up the buzz for the official network premiere in September.

“We have to show our wares,” says Kring, “and if getting Buzz means spoiling some things, I’ll take Buzz any day.”

Comic Con is July 24 – 27th in San Diego, CA

Heroes Season 3 Premiere Date Changed

NBC recently announced the official premiere dates of its fall shows. Heroes will be returning with a 3-hour premiere on Monday, September 22 at 8PM EST, which is one week later than the previously announced date. The Heroes launch will still consist of a a 1-hour clip show and a 2-hour premiere.

Casting News: Bruce Boxleitner

TV Guide’s Michael Ausiello is reporting that Bruce Boxleitner is the latest to join the Heroes cast. Boxleitner played Captain John Sheridan in four seasons of Babylon 5 and he was Scarecrow in Scarecrow and Mrs. King.

Those worried that Heroes may be adding too many new characters shouldn’t fear. Ausiello’s source maintains that altough there will be new characters, the show will focus on “the core characters from the pilot.”

Jack Coleman drops a few Season 3 hints

Jack Coleman, who plays Mr. Bennett (HRG) on Heroes, has offered some clues on what’s in store for Season 3.

We’ve got a few spoilers after the jump!

Some heroes will be headed to the dark side, and some villains will turn good.
HRG is being held prisoner by at the bottom of Level Five in the company facility. He’ll escape, but at a cost.
HRG is not one of villains. He’ll probably be hunting them.
Viewers will see more of Hiro. Hiro takes over his father’s business, and is uncomfortable in the position.
Claire will be more assertive and will try to use her powers for a greater good instead of blending in and being anonymous.
We should keep an eye on Mohinder because he won’t be as mild-mannered as he once was.

Heroes: Season Two coming to Blu-ray

Big News! Universal Studios, which was one of the backers of the HD-DVD format, has just announced its initial lineup of Blu-ray titles. Heroes: Season Two has the distinction of being Universal’s first global Blu-Ray release. If you’re wondering about the first season, Season One will be released on Blu-ray at the same time as Season Two. The scheduled release date for both of these titles is August 26th.

We can also assume that the standard definition DVD set for Season Two will release on August 26th as well.

Heroes: Origins officially scrapped

Heroes: Origins, the much anticipated spinoff/side-project said to be featuring a new hero each week and calling on the powers of some of Hollywood’s most creative minds has been officially dealt the final blow. Ben Silverman, co-chairman of NBC, said that the Origins project is now officially scrapped and noted that NBC felt like the project would be too taxing on the Heroes creative team and that it would be better for the main show not to spread themselves too thin.

The WGA strike first docked the project in November, but now it seems like it wont enough support to get off of the ground again. It’s a shame to see such a great idea go to waste, but we have high hopes that more interesting collaboration projects in the same spirit as “Origins” will show up again in the future.

Heroes returns September 15th

Though we’ve said for weeks now that the tentative return date for Heroes is September 8th (Based on a blog post from Heroes writer Chris Zatta), the official word has been handed down from NBC this past week with some exciting news. Heroes will return on Monday September, 15th with a three-hour event including a 1 hour clips show, and a two-hour “film”/ season premiere episode!

We’ve been talking about the Heroes Original Soundtrack for several weeks now, but until today we have not been able to say for sure which artists and songs would be included on the disc. This morning the confirmed track listing has popped up over at SuperHeroHype.com and other related websites.

Heroes news from Ask Ausiello

Michael Ausiello’s weekly Ask Ausiello column has several Heroes items this week.

Heroes is expected to begin production on Season 3 on May 1, which is two months earlier than normal. They could have 10-13 episodes filmed by the time the show returns to NBC this fall.
Kristen Bell has yet to be signed for the upcoming season. However, they are in active discussions for her to return for a story arc.
Ausiello states the Heroes casting offices will probably be filled over the next few months with people who are good at being bad, which is probably an allusion to the title of Volume 3 – “Villians”.

A slideshow announcement on the official Heroes website over at NBC.com/Heroes is proclaming that an Official Heroes Soundtrack will be hitting stores on March 18th, with new songs from Panic At The Disco and more! We still have not received any official word of the tracklisting, and/or if there will be any tracks featuring the scores from the show by Wendy & Lisa. We’ll update our site with more information about the soundtrack as it is released. (Thanks for the tip, Brett!)

Heroes not likely to return before Fall

Oh, we hate to break bad news! Months ago we said that we felt if the strike didn’t end before an opportune time, that Heroes would likely be out of luck for coming back until the Fall. We have now learned that Heroes was able to finish the production of three episodes before the strike stopped everything cold. Now that the strike is essentially over, the big question of, “Will Heroes return?” has resurfaced, and Tim Kring has provided an ominous answer to Entertainment Weekly:

”With a show like Heroes that’s so strongly serialized, and given what we wanted to accomplish with the new storyline, to come back with just three episodes could be creatively dangerous.”

Though no one has said anything definite about when we’ll be seeing new episodes, Kring’s comments are a good indication that the likelihood of Heroes coming back before Fall is quickly diminishing.

Eisner: “The writer’s strike is over.”

Walt Disney’s Michael Eisner proclaimed on CNBC today that the WGA has agreed on a new contract with the AMPTP and all of the major studios which could effectively end the three month walk-off strike that began in November. “It’s over,” Eisner said, “they [the WGA] made the deal, they shook hands on the deal. It’s going on Saturday to the writers in general.”

Some are skeptical of Eisner’s comments, citing that no official word has been passed down from the WGA as of yet, but Eisner thinks that the deal is in the bag: “It’s possible they [the WGA] will turn it down but it would be insane if they [did].”

If Eisner’s comments are true, then this is welcome news to all of us. With some luck the writers will be back at work very soon doing what they do best– now with the peace of mind that they’re being compensated fairly for all of their past, present, and future works.

UPDATE: The WGA is holding an general membership meeting Saturday night (Feb. 9) in Los Angeles (which lines up with Eisner’s above comments). The new contract language is expected to be revealed and the procedures for ending the strike are expected to be outlined. More updates as they come in!

Jamie Hector joins the cast

Jamie Hector, star of the HBO series The Wire, has been confirmed as a new addition to the Heroes cast. New York Magazine reported that he shot a couple of episodes before the writers’ strike began. Hector doesn’t give away much, but he has revealed that his character’s name is Benjamin Knox Washington and that he has had a lot of fun working on the Heroes set.

In addition to The Wire, Hector has appeared on shows such as Law & Order, Law & Order: SVU, and Third Watch and in movies such as Clockers, He Got Game, and Ghost Dog.

Writer’s strike nearing an end?

We shouldn’t be too hopeful just yet, but the latest news coming across the wire suggests that recent talks between the WGA and the AMPTP have been more successful than usual. However, watchdog sites like UnitedHollwood.com are reminding everyone that no deal has officially been met, nor will a deal be met without more negotiations with the AMPTP. For those playing the home game, the Writers have been on strike since November 5th, 2007, meaning that the writers have been on strike for nearly 15 weeks.

WGA talks to resume November 26

Could we be seeing the WGA’s strike come to a close by the end of this month? According to IGN TV, both the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) have released statements saying formal talks will begin again on November 26. 2007. Now the strike may not end on that date, but the fact that there are even talks is a great step forward on both sides. Again, we will keep you posted on any breaking news about the strike as we get it.

Heroes Memorabilia Up For Auction

NBC Universal will be conducting an online auction beginning November 19 and lasting until December 3. Fans will be able to bid on props and other items from NBC shows such as Heroes, The Office, Friday Night Lights, 30 Rock, and Las Vegas. Items from the Heroes will include Claire’s cheerleader uniform, “melted props”, 3 of Issaac’s paintings, and more. A portion of the proceeds from the auction will benefit the United Way.

Tim Kring sends up an apology to fans

It’s no secret that popular opinion has not been very kind to Heroes since the beginning of Season 2. Heroes has seen a 15% drop in ratings compared to this time last year. But there’s still hope. While participating in the WGA strike outside of the Heroes offices Tim Kring spoke with Entertainment Weekly and admits to fans that mistakes have been made at the beginning of Season 2, but promises that the show will get back on track very soon.

Breaking: Dec. 3rd the Season 2 Finale?

TV Guide has contacted us again, it looks like NBC and Heroes are continuing to prepare for the worst. This writer’s strike just got a little more real for fans of Heroes. TV Guide’s Mike Ausiello has some frightening news:

Sources confirm that the show is going back and shooting an alternate ending to the Dec. 3 episode that, if used, would allow the episode to function as a season finale in the event of a strike. Originally, the episode was only supposed to serve as the conclusion of the current “Generations” arc. Should an 11th-hour agreement be reached and a strike averted (fingers crossed!), the alt ending would likely be scrapped.

Breaking: Heroes Origins Cancelled?

TV Guide has contacted us with some disheartening news: Heroes Origins is being pulled off the table. The six-episode mini-series was supposed to begin running in mid-April.

Sources for TV Guide say that fear of an impending strike of the Writers Guild of America is the main reason why NBC has stopped the project. The strike, which will affect nearly every show on network television, has been brewing for weeks now and may come to a head Thursday night when the WGA’s contract expires. It is expected that NBC will revisit its decision to scrap the project if the labor dispute is resolved quickly.

Conference Call with Kristen Bell and Tim Kring

Heroes actress Kristen Bell and creator Tim Kring had a conference call in which they discuss Bell’s character, the structure of Season 2, and the possibility of seeing more of the Original 12. Read more after the jump. Warning: There are spoilers contained within.

Highlights of the conference call:

Bell’s character, Elle, is “a little off”. She was brought up within The Company, and therefore has trouble telling between right and wrong. She is meant as a cautionary tale about what happens when a hero is raised with an awareness of her power, rather than discovering it on her own. Elle has ties to HRG and Claire, and has a relationship with Claire that is deeper than most would think.
Bell said that she and Hayden Penettierre are old friends and have joked about playing sisters or best friends. Bell then backtracked and said that their characters aren’t necessarily either of those.
After Bell’s 13 episodes, she and Kring will have a meeting and decide if her character should remain on the show.
Volume 2, “Generations”, will be resolved by the 11th episode of Season 2. After that there will be a cliffhanger that leads into Volume 3.
More characters will be leaving the show in the near future.
We will be seeing more of the Original 12 and they will be played by the actors in the photo. It was tricky getting the photo done because it involved actors and plots that were many episodes away. When asked about the lady standing next to Parkman’s father, Kring stated that it looked a lot like Joanna Cassidy.

More big names will be working on the spin-off series Heroes: Origins. Eli Roth, the director of Hostel 1 & 2, will direct one episode of the series. Michael Dougherty, co-writer of Superman Returns and X2: X-Men United, will write one episode. These two join Clerks director Kevin Smith, who will be directing the first episode.

Origins will consist of six episodes and will follow the second season of Heroes. Each episode will focus on a new character. One of the new characters featured in Origins will join the cast of Heroes in the third season.

Beaming Beeman: Preseason Season 2

Web series on the legend of Kensei

NBC has produced a five-part web series called Sword Saint. The series is documentary that Heroes creator Tim Kring describes as a “Ken Burns mockumentary”. It tells the legend of Takezo Kensei, the swordsman that Hiro idolizes. The narration is done by John Rhys-Davis, who played Gimli in The Lord of the Rings. Each installment is three to four minutes long and will be available at YamagatoFellowship.org.
