NBC Officially Cancels Heroes

heroes-let-it-bleed-5-1-10-kcIt’s a sad day for Heroes fans… NBC has officially canceled the show.  We’ll have a lot more to talk about as more information is given by NBC. There are also many people to thank for the last 4 seasons but  right now it’s all still sinking in.  I don’t want to leave anyone out, including all the fans so we’ll update you soon.  Expect somewhat of a response, retrospect and a special thanks to everyone through the years.  With that said, we wanted to at least get the main story out.  We do have word from TheODI and Deadline Hollywood that NBC may still be planning a finale event to give us some closure.  While it’s not even close to the fans getting a full season of our favorite show, it’s still something to [potentially] look forward to.

Thanks for all the updates guys! I am very sad to see Heroes go, such an awesome show… but looking forward to the upcoming podcast. Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedules to put all of them out there- I will definitely miss the podcasts too! As much as I will love watching whatever mini-series/movie may or may not be made, I’m ok with the ending as is. I just feel in a way that the Heroes story as a whole came full-circle after I saw the last scene with claire and the cameras. I really don’t think it’s as much of a cliffhanger as some would make it out to be. Anyway, thanks again for all your hard work :)

  2. I made a petition to help raise awareness to make a movie for Heroes as it will be a great ending to this fantastic show!

good riddance. I used to come on this site when the show actually had a coherent plot and didn’t consist of completely retarded writing. Tim Kring and Co. are hacks. They belong on daytime tv.

  4. Eva says:

According to David H. Lawrence XVII, it is very unlikely that the show is getting a finale event because most of the cast have already moved on and it will be extremely difficult to get them together :(

  5. Rand al'Thor says:

Well, to say this announcement was a surprise or anything like that would be a lie. We all knew this would happen even as the show’s last season was going on.

I thought Heroes’ last season was an excellent final season. It was right up there with the first season, which was one of the best first seasons of a show that I’ve ever seen. The writing was great, the acting was great, the production was great. And the ending on the finale was a great way to leave the show, as it was then open to so many possibilities. In retrospective, doing another season moving on from that would have been a letdown to some faction of fans, as there are so many different directions you could go from there. So that’s a good way to end the show.

10th Wonder, I’ve loved your podcast. I first found out about it about halfway through Heroes’ first season. You’ve done a great job reviewing the episodes, and it’s been fun theorizing about future plot points. That’s what I’ve loved so much about Heroes, is the attention to detail and coming up with ideas about what will happen next. I’ll miss the personalities from your podcast; hopefully you’ll do other, equally good podcasts.

On one episode of my podcast (The RaT Project Live, TalkShoe ID 21129), my co-hosts and I discussed Heroes, what we thought worked for the show and where we thought it failed. It was a great episode.

Anyway, Heroes shall be missed, but perhaps this was the best time to end the show. The thing is, though, we’ll never know if the show was on its way to becoming even better, or if it would have just fallen apart with another season.

    Zachary Quinto just posted:

    “the road ahead…

yesterday nbc announced that heroes is officially cancelled. as much as we have been aware of this possibility for a few weeks – it remains surreal to consider that the decision has been made. the action has been taken. and this chapter (or volume) is really over for all of us who worked on the show – and for all of you who watched it. i want to extend myself in a huge swell of gratitude to all of the fans. for investing in the stories we told. for engaging in the characters we created. and for standing by us through all the ups and downs of what was at times a rocky road. your commitment enriched the experience for all of us – and i know that we will always be grateful for your enthusiasm. it has been a true honor to share this time in my life with my amazing cast mates and our indomitable crew. i will certainly miss them most of all. the gift of working alongside such talented and inspiring people is something i will carry with me everywhere i go from here. and no matter where my work and my life take me – i will forever look back on heroes as the game changer. tim kring and the original creative team and writing staff took a risk on me to play gabriel gray when there was no reason to risk – besides their belief in me. they gave voice to a character that has challenged me and rewarded me beyond my wildest imagination. i will never forget that. it is humbling and deeply moving. so i thank them. and i thank you. and i assure you that while this door has closed – and as cliché as it sounds – others are flying open even as we speak. this is only the beginning in so many ways. and i hope that the fans i have made through this profound experience will follow me into many new and unchartered territories. i think the sarmy should lead the charge… it’s only fitting after all. thanks for your many well wishes and for your loyalty. let us move on with gratitude. that is exactly what i intend to do.

Well, that’s it. It’s sad that Heroes will have ultimately ended on a sizable cliff-hanger, but I guess that’s the way of the world. In a way, I’m relieved: Heroes is canceled and Lost is in its final days.

    A new era has arrived.

  8. Jamie says:

I remember what you guys said on the podcast a few months back about how the Volume 6 preview in a way was an reboot/endpoint for the series. In a way perhaps it is better that it ended with their powers revealed to the whole world and that the subsequent events were not shown. The ending that was chosen in my opinion allowed the writers to end the some in clear way that harked back to the pilot but was also at fitting end.

  9. Armando says:

Isn’t their anything we can do to bring it back ?

  10. TheRedShoes says:

David H Lawrence is barely in the cast anyway, so his opinion on a finale event means very little to me, his tweets are usually just about his girlfriend and not much else. . I mean as of now the cast would have still been out doing other projects anyway, if they are called back to the show for a finale event, then they will probably come. Most them of them still live in LA, with the exception of the elusive ZQ who claims to have moved to NYC already….but I understand he was just being a goof.

Now on to the important stuff, THANK you guys for all of the work you did, I cannot even express my gratitude to you guys at the 10th Wonders and the cast and crew of Heroes. It was an amazing time and I got to meet a lot of great people.

  11. Eva says:

@TheRedShoes: it was on his latest podcast. He is still in touch with the other cast members and all he said was full of sense. I’m not convinced there will be a closure to the serie.

  12. Great first my favorite team loses to my cousin’s favorite team ON MY HOME TURF NOW THIS!!!! THIS IS NOT FAIR!!!!

  13. Matt says:

Heroes is gone… and Lost STILL isn’t over?!?!? Sad sad day!

  14. Flight girl says:

Heroes is gone but not forgotten. I was not happy on Friday and was very angry @NBC about Heroes and L&O. I am calmer now.

  15. Brandon says:

Im so upset. What do I do monday nights? I hope a movie or something gets created out of this story line. This is not the end!

  16. Angel says:

No Hero’s????????????????? THATS ALL I HAD TO LOOK FORWARD TOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  17. Mike says:

I am sadly disappointed in NBC. I’m thinking the fans are going to want it resurrected like Chuck or Jericho. Maybe an X-Files-like movie is in order. I’m not ready to wish Heroes off. Tim Kring had a five year plan and I want to see it through. I am deeply disappointed in NBC and for the first time, will make an effort to keep good TV on! If a fifth season comes to fruition, I’d like to see a tie into some of the season 1 and 2 story arcs. In the meantime, shame on NBC.

10th Wonder – you’re the first and possibly last podcast I’ve enjoyed. All of you, past and present, have done an outstanding job and I hope for all our sakes that it’s not over. Thank you for all you’ve done.

  18. Chris says:

They cancelled Law & Order…. then they cancelled Heroes!

    Oh my gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooood!

(Seriously though, this saddens me. I figured it was coming, but it saddens me)

  19. Dumblond says:

As much as I am disappointed that I will no longer get to enjoy Heroes every week, I am more disappointed about the podcast coming to an end. Graham, Derek, and Joe…thank you.

  20. Dave says:

So, what happens with the podcast? Will there be a goodbye podcast, where you can pimp other shows, and maybe theorize what you would like to have seen, or should I just go delete my itunes subscription today?

  21. Ian says:

How is it that Heroes was canceled, yet the dumbest show in the history of television, Jersey Shore, is going to have a 2nd season? What the hell? I swear, the IQ of the U.S. is going down with each new MTV reality show.

  22. Joe says:

We’ll make an announcement soon as to when it will be released but there will definitely be another 10th Wonder podcast to discuss the past and the future. Thanks to everyone for the kind words.

  23. I guess now the only thing to do is pop in the season 1 dvd and go down memory lane.

  24. Greta says:

THANKS 10TH WONDER FOR YOUR MARVELOUS PODCASTS! You guys were awesome!

This news however didn’t come as a surprise to me… although this last season was great in my opinion, Heroes was becoming kind of boring and utterly random. I think it was time to let it die.
    So sad though…

  25. Jennifer says:

I am sad to see the show go. But most of all, I am very sad to see the podcast end! Although we’ve never met, I feel as if you both are two old friends discussing a show we love! I wish both of you every happiness and thank you for delivering a great podcast that I thoroughly enjoyed!

  26. BIGMAN says:

Heroes is finished because it’s stolen IP and we applaud those NYC artists that filed the copyright infringement lawsuit against this hack tim kring and NBC 4 years ago.
The lawsuit MALLERY V NBCU DOCKET# 09-999 will go before The U.S. SUPREME COURT on MAY 21, 2010.
This lawsuit caused Isaac Mendez to be written off the show and many of the show’s story line to change which caused the show’s story lines to become lame and confusing, causing the show to fail.
Don’t believe it, then where is Heroes today?
    CANCELLED.
To many of us that work in the tv and film industry it is our prayer that the moron called tim kring will get exactly what’s coming to him.
He’s a pathetic loser and what he stole he could not keep and the show still failed.
THE TRUTH ABOUT WHY HEROES REALLY FAILED WILL SURFACE IN THE MEDIA VERY SHORTLY.
What a massive financial loss to NBC.

  27. cake says:

@BIGMAN, UM WHY ARE YOU HEAR?

  28. Evan says:

@Bigman: the judge threw the suit out and ordered the people who filed to pay attorney fees. Obviously this judge understood that within the realm of comics, tv, movies, books, etc. there’s going to be overlaps and parallels that might look like plagiarism at face value but upon closer inspection, the overlap is just coincidence (and if I remember right Kring has said multiple times he does read comics or watch tv).

Really bummed about Heroes being cancelled. Personally I liked the last season. Maybe Heroes just set the bar too high for itself and could make the leap again. Still a great show overall. Hopefully the success of shows like Heroes and Lost will make networks take a gamble on other genres that they normally stay away from. Here’s hoping we get a wrap-up mini-series/movie/cool feature on the DVD. Good bye Heroes. You will be missed.

  29. BIGMAN says:

    Evan,
show all of us on this site where those artists paid anyone attorney fees?
And if the judge threw the case out what is the case doing in court on May 21, 2010
?Believe what you want, but I know the truth and the truth is :
” THOSE ARTISTS LAWSUIT AGAINST NBCU AND TIM KRING STOMPED HOLES INTO HEROES AND CAUSED IT TO SINK.”
Now… you either want to know the truth or you you want to keep posting the fake ass shit that you choose to post here?
Pull up the lawsuit MALLERY V NBCU DOCKET#09-999 and READ IT.
    then, post here.
The real Heroes fans are hurt and they deserve to know the truth.

  30. helix9 says:

Wow, this is gonna be hard. I’ve been watching from season one and was never afraid to leave Heroes when the going looked bleak. I still need to pick up the final DVD and comic releases to bid it a fond farewell. I am also disappointed with the cancellation of FlashForward, and with the ending of Lost I feel as if television may never reach the kind of levels it has achieved in the past six or seven years. What will be the likes of next fall, I wonder?

  31. Jamie says:

Well, I guess most fans knew it was touch ‘n’ go as to whether the show would be back for another season. On balance, I thought it would be but those hopes are now dashed. I will miss it very much.

And I will also miss the podcasts. I’m only sorry I didn’t discover it until a few episodes into season 3 but it became a weekly ritual after that. Thank you to everyone involved…

  32. Eva says:

Do you think it is possible Heroes being picked up by another network? Ghost Whisperers has been canceled by CBS but I just learnt that the show has been picked up by ABC for a new season…

  33. bsol says:

Deserved to be canceled – I watched for 2 and a half seasons and then gave upon it.Terrible writing.
At last, a tv network made the right decision.

  34. VirtuosoZ says:

Heroes seasons 2 and 3 had some questionable writing, but season 4 was a dramatic improvement over previous seasons. imho, season 4 was the best content of the series. bsol, I’m assuming you came here because you used to be a fan of the show. So you owe it to yourself to check out Volume 5 “Redemption.” If NBC had cancelled Heroes after the season 3 finale, I wouldn’t have been surprised. I was so annoyed by the nonsensical writing and the downs syndrome decision to put Nathan in Sylar’s body! If NBC had cancelled it then, I would have said they did the right thing. But canceling it now after it’s best run on television? That’s even dumber than Mohinder turning into a scaly lizard monster and trapping Maya in a cocoon!

  35. TheJerichoFan says:

    @Bigman

    http://www.supremecourt.gov/Search.aspx?FileName=/docketfiles/09-999.htm

I’m sure this is what you are talking about, but all it is a Petition for a Rehearing of the suit. Not saying that it couldn’t go to court, but Evan is right it was thrown out.

And @Eva Ghost Whisperer has been cancelled officially now, ABC has chosen not to pick it up.

  36. cake says:

I love heroes. I have watched every episode from day one and i thought i would be devastated if heroes ever was cancelled. But I moved on pretty quickly. If there is a mini movie that ends it that would make me day but if not i still have the dvd sets to reflect on.

  37. julia ann says:

i admit i watched season one, now i just find them annoying.
