Who’s next?

We are now familiar with two lists on Heroes. The first one is Dr. Suresh’s list, and the other is Tim Kring’s “hit” list. During February sweeps we are going to see the death of yet another hero. Read the interview over at at SuperHero Hype and start placing your bets. Read our prediction after the Jump.

We’re betting that it is going to be Zach. We know that Thomas Dekker is leaving at some point to do The Sarah Connor Chronicles on FOX. We also have a bad premonition that Zach is in danger now that he knows Claire’s secret again.

What do you guys think?

  1. Andrew DeZarn Says:

I agree that Zach is definitely a possible name on Tim Kring’s hit list, but I also think Isaac may be in danger as well, judging from Hiro’s visit to the future.

  2. Chris Harrison Says:

It’s probably safe to say that Hiro is safe. He’s too popular to kill off right now. With Zach knowing what he knows now (when he shouldn’t) it definitely puts him in peril… but I wouldn’t call him a hero.

Hmm… Matt could be a candidate… Isaac… Ando (even though he lacks powers)…

  3. Mikey L Says:

I would have to say I am leaning toward Matt. Tim Kring’s comment on people being upset once we find out, pulls me away from Zach as he is not a “main” character. Matt has run into trouble a couple times (ie. Sylar,HRG, and the Nuclear guy, forgot name) and I wouldn’t be surprised if his time comes to a end. I like the reasoning Andrew gave for Isaac as well. It makes a lot of sense.

  4. Jeffers Says:

I was just trying to find Episode 1 to re-watch it. I believe that Tim Kring said that it will be a “character regular” not a Hero type and that person was in the first minutes of the first episode.
Then TK says that we will definetely be seeing this character in upcoming episodes.
    Humm…..

I’m thinking, maybe Nikki or Jessica, but not both, would die. But then again I can’t re-watch the episode so I could be WAY OFF!!

    Jeffers

” Asked if that “regular” is one of the actual heroes, Kring responds, “You know what? I personally never use the term ‘hero’ because I happen to know that, ultimately, some of the seemingly heroic characters will not be heroic.”

  5. Brooks Says:

I think it’s going to be Mohinder. He was in the “opening minutes of the pilot”, he’s a main character, and I think he’s going to get to far into the OWI(Orginazation Without Intitials)and then he won’t be able to take care of himself, just like his mom said in “Homecoming”

  6. pete from sojo Says:

    Zach

    Spoiler…………………………………….

i watched the commentary on NB.com they said the Acter is leaving to be in Termanater

  7. Mo Favo Says:

I think it will be Simone, All the clues indicate female first portion of the pilot episode and not necessarily a hero. It could really add to the love triangle with Peter and Isaac.

  8. Chris Harrison Says:

Here is who appeared within the the first five minutes of Heroes - Episode 1 - “Genesis”, in order of appearance:

    * Peter, Simone, Simone’s Dad (deceased), Mohinder

That’s a pretty short list. Given the fact that Tim Kring has said it would be someone who appeared in the first five minutes of the pilot…

Based on this short list, I’m having a hard time guessing…

Peter is very central to the story… and Future Hiro mentioned to Peter in the subway, something about seeing him in the future with a scar on his face…

Mohinder seems pretty central too… He wants to find all of the special people and warn them about HRG and the OWI… I can’t see them killing him off this early on.

Simone is probably the most expendable character of the bunch… and she’s added a lot more drama to the show, because of her involvement with Peter and Isaac. I could see something happening to her in the near future… Especially with her connections to Linderman… She may try to get some of the heroes closer, but herself in jeopardy in the process…

  9. Rich Says:

Zach? Nah. I’m going with Mohinder. He’s not as central to the story as he may seem and HRG did tell him the list was of “grave” importance. Maybe so much he gets put into the grave?

Let’s say it is Mo, will that mean the show goes “Desperate Housewives” and has a dead guy doing voice overs? :) How cool would it be if it is him and his voice overs are taken over by… HRG?

  10. Cory Says:

Nathan. He’ll sacrifice himself to make up for the past wrongs in his life (cheating on wife, being associated with a mafia-type, not believing in his brother, etc.)

  11. Tim Says:

I also put my money on Nathan or Peter. Zach doesnt seem like too much of a regular to die. tim Kring said we would hate who died. I wouldn’t care if Zach died. But I’d care if Peter or Nathan died.

  12. Bruce Says:

I think it will be Simone, All the clues indicate female first portion of the pilot episode and not necessarily a hero. It could really add to the love triangle with Peter and Isaac.

Are you saying that Peter and Isaac would fall in love if Simone was absent, or did I misunderstand what you’re saying here?

  13. Bruce Says:

“But with the ability to bend time and change things, not all of those who are killed are making their last appearance on the show–and we actually do have plans for the character who’s dying.”

This makes me think that it isn’t Hiro, otherwise, who’s going to be “bending time and change things”… Oh, yeah, Peter already met Hiro, so I guess he could bend time.

OK, back to where we were…

    I bet it’s Claire.

  14. Rich Says:

“But with the ability to bend time and change things, not all of those who are killed are making their last appearance on the show–and we actually do have plans for the character who’s dying.”

I was just about post something about how “It can’t be Peter, he has a relationship with Future Hiro in the, ummm, future…”, but Reading the above quote in Bruce’s post makes me think that it could be Peter (or maybe Isaac), since Present Hiro has a relationship with both characters and would try to change events to save both of them. Killing Peter off would be a great twist and would definitely score some emotion points with the audience. And Hiro’s adventures of going back to change events would make a great story arc.

I agree that Zach is going to be at least written off so he can do the Terminator TV show, but I’m not sure if he’ll be killed. I think that he might just have to leave Odessa and Claire somehow.

  15. Mikey L Says:

Everyone keeps stating it has to be someone from the first 5 minutes of the original episode. Where is this information coming from? In Tim Krings quote he states “During February sweeps we are going to kill off one of our regulars, someone who has been with the show from the very beginning.” That means a original character as opposed to one that came in later ie: DL and Ted.

  16. Jeffers Says:

Nah, it can’t be Claire she is about to meet her Bio parents or at least her Bio Mom.

I suppose that it doesn’t really matter but Who would be the one to be killed off and come back from time to time?

Now here is something very interesting I read on another site:
What if Linderman is Claire’s Bio Dad? Everyone else is traveling to Vegas, Right? Why not Claire?

  17. Jeffers Says:

    MikeL-
I was just searching for the article. I remember either hearing from a podcast or reading it elsewhere but it did state the character was in the first 5 minutes of the pilot. Now if that means the pilot that the world saw or the pilot that only Comic-Con saw is up in the air. I have not seen the Comic-Con pilot so I can’t answer that one.

I just wonder on which episode this will happen?

  18. Eric Says:

My guess is Nikki, Peter, or Nathan … In the end, I think I agree with Corey … It will be Nathan!!!!

My reasoning … We just found out that Nikki’s power is hers (and not Jessica), which has opened an entirely new set of possible story lines. If Kring had kept the power connected to Jessica (i.e. like the Hulk), then I think her character would hit a deadend shortly, and I would have Nikki at the top of the list … As far as Peter goes, NO WAY!!! He just met his Jedi Master (Peter/Luke Skywalker meets Claude/Obi-Won), ya can’t kill Luke in the first act of his heroic story … That leaves Nathan!

Zach (from what I’ve read) has already been written off the show. “Godsend” was the last ep he would be in.

  19. CharlieJ Says:

If the death is soon, then it’s going to be Zach. Thomas Dekker’s last episode was Godsend. He’s going forward to the new TV series where he’ll star.

If the death is later in the season, I’m guessing it’s going to be either Simone or Isaac. Hiro and Ando are frick-n-frack. Claire and HRG is the mainstays. Matt’s story is still developing. Mohinder provides the marrative. Peter is the center of the show right now. Sylar is a side-story, but the major antagonist (that is, until we meet Linderman in April/May), so he’s not going anywhere

There’s no way to kill off any of the “specials” except Simone or Isaac.

  20. Tony Collett Says:

My wife and I were talking about this as she was reading the new TV Guide article. I thought about the question for a moment and came up with what I thought was a good answer:
    What if it was Claire?
It work work from a storytelling perspective for several reasons. It would be unexpected, as many people believe that her power would prevent that from happening. Being a long-time comics fan, there were several discussions amongst fanboy circles of how Wolverine could be killed with such a healing power. Two I came up with off the top of my head was decapitation with the head seperated from the body (and no, the pun was not intentional) and recalling the movie “Fargo” the body being put in a woodchipper. Also, many people believe she will play an important part in stopping the explosion, either herself or having Peter absorb her power (after his apprenticeship with Claude, of course) But what if you remove her from the equation? A lot of people are gonna think “Holy crap, what’re they going to do now?” A similar plot twist was used in “Babylon 5″ and “The Shining” to really up the stakes.
In addition, it would be a way to show that anything goes and no one is safe. Another comics example is X-Men, when a member of the new group (Thunderbird) was killed in their first mission after they rescued the old team. They almost did this in the pilot to “Hill Street Blues”.
And what about “Save the cheerleader, save the world”? There would be the question hanging in the air of whether or not Peter saving Claire at Homecoming did save the world, or something will happen at some future point that the Heroes decide the outcome would be better if Claire was there, thus leading Future Hiro to go back in time to give Peter that message. It would also eliminate the time loop, because if they _did_ save the cheerleader and _did_ save the world, the only reason Future Hiro would go back in time was because “that’s what I did, or will do”. There would be an actual reason to do so.
It would also amp up some of the characters. What do you think HRG would do, for example? It could also possibly establish firmly whether he was good or evil. Imagine if he decided to have the Haitian erase all memory of Claire from Mrs. Bennet and their son.
Those are my thoughts on the matter. BTW, I checked, and Claire first appears around the 8 minute mark in the pilot.

  21. Cara Says:

The only person I’m fairly sure is safe is Peter–but not for any of the reasons that have been mentioned.

I don’t think he’s going to die, simply because they’ve tried so hard to convince us that he IS going to die. You know, all that “I’m the bomb” stuff that’s been going on–they’re trying very hard to get us to think that Peter’s a goner. So, in true comic-book style, that makes him pretty much safe.

You all know how the “Heroes” writeres like the twists, the surprise endings. So how how likely is it, really, that they’re really going to kill the guy they say they’re going to kill? More likely there will be some kind of triple-fake-out and someone entirely different will die, knocking our socks off with surprise. That’s just how the show has seemed to work so far.

  22. BrianAlt Says:

I like what Tony Collett was saying about Claire. In fact perhaps Peter HAD to save Claire from Sylar so that she could be used to save the world from the explosion later. That’s VERY logical, “save the cheerleader, save the world.” So it could be her power that makes a difference in saving the world and saving Peter from destroying the world, but does it somehow kill her in the process?

This is also a reason why The Haitian didn’t want to erase her memory. He wanted to make sure she remembered Peter and that she WANTED to help him save the world.

It all makes too much sense. Very possible!

  23. Teresa Says:

Okay. I also keep hearing people say that the hero will die in the first 5 minutes. Are you sure its the first 5 minutes? I thought I heard it was the first 10 minutes of Genesis, but then again I may be mistaken.

Someone said elsewhere that they think its Ando because the future Hiro seems different compared to the present Hiro. And Ando’s death would definitely make an impact on Hiro. So I think they could be right and it could be Ando. But thats just one theory, it really could be anyone of the main characters. And I don’t think it will be Zach — he’s not big enough of a main character.

  24. Chair Says:

… I don’t know, I really would be surprised if they killed Clair.

My guesses would either be Zach, not only do we know the actor is leaving the show, and that he now has information that he shouldn’t, but since Clair is running from her current life with nothing to stop her, it would make sense her bestfriend is not there for her.

My second guess would be HRG, which would be surprising, except that we’re going to be introduced to a colleage of his in the near future. Furthermore, HRG doesn’t show up in Peter’s dream, and it would give Clair another reason to run.

Two side notes, first I’d net money on Clair’s father being Nathan, we learned quickly that Nathan had little remorse for cheating on his wife, and he does act like a true-blue politician. (of coarse, it would be even better if her real father was HRG, even though it wouldn’t make sense knowing what we know.)

Second, to being back the debate on zach’s sexuality, don’t forget how quicly he looked away after Clair lifted her cheerleader’s outfit, her bra was exposed and I think it was all meant to happen the way it had with his confused stance on his sexual interests. I think his MySpace account has always listed him as unsure, maybe he was just confused.

    Later!

  25. Adrian Says:

i think it’s gonna be Nathan.. if anyone has read the comics NBC post on their website..there was a comic with Peter and he’s dreaming.

And in the dream he’s flying around chasing a bad guy. he stops the bad guy by flying up just out of the earths atmoshphere etc..

May be peter was dreaming about being Nathan. coz he is the only one that can fly properly

Also in the dream in Godsend Nathn was being very clear to Peter that he’s not gonna leave him. He’ll turn heroic and die for a good course.

    Well just an idea anyway..

  26. Mikey Says:

Claires Father is Linderman….at least that’s my guess. Why else would he be so interested in Isaac’s paintings unless he knew the truth. It could be Nathan as well. Either way it makes for good story lines

  27. Ashley Says:

Mikey.. ur wrong about Claires father.. and you are not going to like who her father really is. If anyone wants to know who her father is.. email me…justbreathex11@aim.com

  28. Tony Says:

Pity, Ashley, that’s who my wife picked. I thought it’d be Nathan.

  29. 0r!@nD0 Says:

    **POSSIBLE SPOILER**
I dont think that it is going to be simone, because in peters vision she was in it, if anybody dies, i think it will be Nathan because it showed him getting incinerated in the explosion that Peter is going to cause. And Time Kring said that the explosion is going to happen.
Which means that more than likely nathan is going to die.

  30. 0r!@nD0 Says:

Mikey…Claires father is not Linderman because it said the Linderman lives in Las Vegas, Nevada, and Mr. Bennett obviously lives in Odesa, Texas

  31. Mikey Says:

As for Claires father, it could be anyone. People move. As much as I want to find out Ashley if you truly know who it is, I don’t. Part of what makes this show great is being able to speculate. If I knew all the answers I wouldn’t have a reason to watch. What I do know is it’s going to get better and better and I can’t wait until tonight.

  32. Chair Says:

Let’s break down the argument on Claire’s father. First, what do we know for sure? Well, we know her father has been introduced in some fashion/manner to the audience, we also know it’s going to be a big shocker. (Both things were attributed to Tim Kring in a recent interview.)

So, lets use a little bit of logic to examine all the males that have been introduced to the audience (we’ll be able to rule some out on age alone, and others based on race.)

List 1-A: Likely Main and Supporting Male characters
Charles Deveaux, Lyle Bennet, Sanjog Iyer, Mr. Linderman, Ando Masahashi, Brody Mitchum, Hal Sanders, Ted Sprague, Chandra Suresh, Sylar, Claude, The Haitian, Hank, Zach, Mr. Bennet, D.L. Hawkins, Isaac Mendez, Hiro Nakamura, Matt Parkman, Nathan Petrelli, Peter Petrelli, Micah Sanders, Mohinder Suresh

Okay, so lets make some realistic assumptions (first, any character who has yet to develop (or display) a power should be considered a “norm” and is as he appears in age, race, etc.; second, a mulatto child will show some outward sign of his or her mixed heritage (very unlikely a mulatto would be fair skinned and blond haired.); finally, males are highly unlikely to posses sperm/semen before the age of 12.)

    Discounted due to age:
Lyle Bennet (Lyle is younger than Claire), Sanjog Iyer (Sanjog appears to be the same age or younger than Claire), Brody Mitchum (Brody is either Claire’s age or a year older), Zach (Zach is also Claire’s age), Micah Sanders (Micah, while expressing abilities doesn’t appear to have the ability to alter his age or transverse time), Isaac Mendez (according to NBC’s character stats, Isaac would have been 11 (or 10) when Claire was conceived), Hiro Nakamura (also from NBC’s site, Hiro would have been 7 (or 6) when Claire was conceived [even with his documented ability to travel through time it would be highly unlike his character to do something so foolish as to bring a new life into the world when he is not from that time]), Peter Petrelli (would have been 9 (or 8) when Claire was conceived)

List 1-B: Likely Main and Supporting Male characters (considering age)
Charles Deveaux, Mr. Linderman, Ando Masahashi, Hal Sanders, Ted Sprague, Chandra Suresh, Sylar, Claude, The Haitian, Hank, Mr. Bennet, D.L. Hawkins, Matt Parkman, Nathan Petrelli, Mohinder Suresh

As you can see, we’ve already reduced the likely list to 15 from 23 males (a 35 percent decrease.) Now, lets consider race using the logic from above.

Charles Deveaux (black [highly unlikely as his daughter is also black]), Sanjog Iyer (while too young, he is also Indian and is difficult to believe he can introduce blond hair genes into the fertilization), Ando Masahashi (while his age is unknown, Ando would not be a likely candidate for Claire’s father as she appears more Irish than Asian), Chandra Suresh (the same arguement used with Sanjog could be used with Chandra [he is not a likely carrier of blond hair genes]), The Haitian (same as Charles Deveaux), D.L. Hawkins (while possibly the right age, D.L. has already proven that he is not a likely carrier for the blond gene), Hiro Nakamura (not considering are, Hiro is as likely to be a carrier as Ando), Micah Sanders (too young and not a likely candidate due to being Mulatto himself), Mohinder Suresh (same considerations against him as his father.)

    So that leaves:
List 1-C: Likely Main and Supporting Male characters (considering race)
Lyle Bennet, Mr. Linderman, Brody Mitchum, Hal Sanders, Ted Sprague, Sylar, Claude, Hank, Zach, Mr. Bennet, Matt Parkman, Nathan Petrelli, Peter Petrelli

In this case we’ve reduced the number of males from 23 to 13 (a 43 percent decease.)

So, what happens when we cross-reference these two lists… who’s left?
List 1-D: Likely Main and Supporting Male characters (considering race and age)
Mr. Linderman, Hal Sanders, Ted Sprague, Sylar, Claude, Hank, Mr. Bennet, Matt Parkman, Nathan Petrelli

Now, from the original 23 we on have 9 (61 percent decrease.)

So, who could be her father? We’ll never know for sure… it’s unlikely to be Linderman (we’ve never met him), likewise it’s unlikely to be Sylar (he seems a little too young), Hal Sanders, Hank, and Claude are all bit players (currently) and would seem like odd choices.

That only leaves, Ted Sprague, Mr. Bennet, Matt Parkman, and Nathan Petrelli.

My money lies upon either Nathan Petrelli (as we’ve seen him sow his wild oats), or Mr. Bennet (his care for her seems a little _too_ intense for just an adoptive father, he doesn’t seem to care about Lyle as much.)

Thanks for the time… sorry this is a lot messier than I expected it to be.

  33. Mikey Says:

Great insite Chair. Thanks, I can’t wait to find out.

  34. alex Says:

it seems to me the guy who appeared to be claires dad was wearing a suit or dress up clothes which indicates the possibility of nathan being the one. It would be a more what the moment if it was linderman since we never had seen him as yet. It would be a great way to intro the character to be seen.

  35. Kristy Says:

“Some people will be upset (when they learn who dies), sure,” says “Heroes” creator and executive producer Tim Kring. “During February sweeps we are going to kill off one of our regulars, someone who has been with the show from the very beginning.” Asked if that “regular” is one of the actual heroes, Kring responds, “You know what? I personally never use the term ‘hero’ because I happen to know that, ultimately, some of the seemingly heroic characters will not be heroic.”

With this quote, it shows that the person that is going to be killed may not be a hero. In fact by the way Kring insinuates it ’s probably not a hero.

  36. Short Hair Style Idea Says:

If I were to really, really, think about it, s next? at The 10th Wonder - NBC Heroes Podcast is a great way to frame your point, especially when short hair style idea is taken into account.

  37. Ratajski Says:

I find it rather interesting that no comments had apparently been posted, at least on the screen I’m looking at, between February and October of 2007. Obviously, the answer as to who dies at the end of season two has been answered, but I’m not saying anything in case someone reads this and hasn’t seen the episode. What I will say, since the previews said that two heroes will fall, is that one of those two is coming back in season three. I also know who actually killed the hero that will resurface in season three. I want to send a personal message to Tim Kring in this post because I think this series may well be the best show ever. I know what’s coming next, I’ve figured out how you think, but I enjoy every minute of it. This site has my e-mail address. If by any chance you find this message, I have an idea for a character that will make things even more intriuging. Need there be proof that I know what’s going on in the story, just get my e-mail from the site and ask me who killed the hero that will return in season three. I have no connections, I just know how to figure out how stories work. If I’m wrong, well, you’ll provide me with more unexpected entertainment, as you, who are of the extreme few have been capable of doing.
